hi-ya! as in karate

we decide that sunday will be a fun day for everyone in the family.

yesterday, on our way to the mobile store, we passed a karate studio which has kids classes on sunday mornings @ 10:30am. we make a mental note to be back tomorrow as these kids need to meet some other kids. stat.

somehow we are able to actually wake up early on a sunday & get going. the peanuts are dressed in what diggy dubs "comfy clothes", we all set off for karate class.

we get arrive at the dojo a few minutes before class starts & ask the instructor/sensai if they are old enough to join the class. for their first class, newbies usually just watch from the sidelines & then determine if they want to come to class on a regular basis.

i don't know if anyone knows this but my children really have an attention issue. not on the order of ADD or anything but they can be wiggly. they can sit through a movie in a theatre or a meal at a restaurant but they really get wiggly when presented with an opportunity to sit & watch a show (magic, dance, puppet or otherwise) - they will be the kids wandering a birthday party while the other b-day party guests enjoy a magician or clown performance.

so karate is kinda a wash. they want to do it but then they really goof off. i think they will do better if neither joe nor i are in eyesight.

one note: during karate class, a giant & i do mean GIANT spider made an appearance on one of the mats. i am nearsighted, which means that objects/people at a distance totally elude me so i i can see this spider across the room WITHOUT glasses, you know we're talking about a really ginormous, huge, giant spider. i hadn't seen any spiders in bristol until this point, so i was figuring, wow, we've come to a part of the world where spiders are just not in abundance. awesome. unlike our home which seems to attract every single strange breed spider within a 2 mile radius.

i was wrong.

the harbour area harbors some of the biggest spiders i have ever had the misopportunity to see & they seem to congregate in groups of 4 or more.

yuck.
